When the desert sun drops below the horizon, the kangaroo rat begins its day. It never drinks a single sip of water. Instead, its body makes all the water it needs from the dry seeds it eats. To hold on to that water, the kangaroo rat stays deep in a cool, sealed burrow while the sun is high, and comes out to look for food only after dark.

The traps all sound reasonable but aren't in the text: nothing says it sees well in the dark (A), that seeds only appear at night (C), or that it's avoiding predators (D). On the ISEE, the wrong answers are often the ones that feel right if you didn't read closely.

What grade levels are covered?
